BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Fireworks and safety are coming together in Bloomington's Miller Park.

Spectators attending the fireworks in the park are in store for some new safety policies just for the Fourth of July celebrations.

On July 4, only pets and bike riding will not be allowed in the park. As always, any type of personal fireworks and alcohol are banned.

Bloomington police say the changes are all in the name of ensuring a safe celebration for all in attendance.

“We want to have a safe and enjoyable event for everyone,” said Bloomington Police Public Information Officer Sara Mayer. “We expect a large crowd and we certainly want a lot of families and a lot of people in attendance so that's why we have these rules in place.”

In addition to the rules already in place, officers will also be enforcing noise ordinances for loud vehicles and stereos. Extra officers will be on hand for enforcement and video surveillance will be used.
