PEORIA, Ill --More than 50 companies are expected to participate in an employment fair for veterans Thursday at the Peoria civic Center.

It will be one of several "Hiring our Heroes" employment fairs held nationwide. Shaun Carter, a spokesperson for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, says since the initiative started in March of last year more than 10,000 veterans have obtained jobs.

"We connect with the employers. We let them know this veteran and this spouse, they're bringing a wide set of skills to the table, they trained under very stressful circumstances," he said.

Carter says applicants should wear business attire and bring 25 resumes. The "Hiring Our Heroes" job fair will be at the Peoria Civic Center and runs from 10 a.m. until 2 in the afternoon.
