PEORIA, Ill -- A morning house fire on the south end of Peoria left the Davis family homeless Friday.

The Limestone Township Fire department responded to the fire at 3316 Malone.

Chief Terry Capps said one of the residents made the call after 9 am when returning home.

Capps says it took his fire crew along with assistance from West Peoria and Bartonville about an hour to knock it down.

No one was in the house but two family pets perished in the fire.

Capps says the flames started in the basement and the building sustained heavy damage.

The Davis family is staying with relatives.
