MORTON, Il. -- Beginning January 1, 2013 residents in Morton will be paying more for their garbage fees.
Morton residents will have a garbage collection system similar to the one in Peoria and will no longer use the small orange bins.
They will have the option of purchasing a 65-gallon roller bin or a 35-gallon one for garbage use.
The fee will be $15 a month instead of the current cost of $11.50.
Morton Public Works Superintendent Craig Loudermilk says residents will also see a 3 percent increase in the third year of the new contract.
"At the end of the day when I go home I feel good that we got the best possible deal for the citizens of Morton. In addition to the increase we did get some additional services. Some of these services are e-waste drop off at their facility on Jefferson," said Loudermilk.
Senior citizens are eligible for a reduced rate on the smaller garbage bins.
Residents who do not want to subscribe to the new system will be responsible for taking their garbage to a landfill.
