CHICAGO, Ill. -- Motorola Mobility is officially moving in to downtown Chicago.

The company officially announced Thursday it would move from its Libertyville, Illinois headquarters to Merchandise Mart. The wireless company will occupy the top four floor and the roof, totaling about 600,000 square feet.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was on hand for the announcement, saying Motorola Mobility would "bring jobs and economic opportunity to [Chicago]."

"Illinois is Motorola Mobility's home, and we're thrilled to bring our employees to downtown Chicago and infuse our company with the vibrant energy of the city," said Dennis Woodside, CEO of Motorola Mobility. "We're 84 years young, and what a better place to continue our commitment to the state, honor our heritage, recruit top talent, and usher in a new era of wireless innovation than in the historic Merchandise Mart."

Motorola Mobility's move to downtown Chicago makes the seventh headquarters relocation announced during Emanuel's tenure.
