PEORIA Ill -- The extension was done to incorporate aircraft insurance policies requiring at least 4,000 feet of runway for take-offs or landings.
Officials say Mount Hawley is the only airport in Illinois that offers pilot medical certification and training to become a pilot.
"It is a time producer for business people besides its just a heck of a lot of fun. Taking flying lessons is a really interesting challenge, and it's a lot of fun and a heck of an accomplishment," said Airports Director, Gene Olson.
Visitors got an up-close view of the planes on display.
The small airport currently holds 75 different airplanes.
