NORMAL, Ill. -- America is growing older, and more Americans are living longer.
And with those living longer, more will need special living arrangements in their later years.
The Meadows at Mercy Creek is a new assisted living community now under construction in Normal.
The project is a partnership between the Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community and the Apostolic Christian Church.
Assisted living is for adults who need some help in their daily lives but don't need the round-the-clock medical services of a nursing home.
"We see a lot of the baby boomers coming in, and for the next 20 years, they have a desire to live In a social model rather than a clinical model, thus assisted living is a lot more popular," said Robert Bertsche, CEO of Mercy Creek Assisted Living.
Organizers of the new project said assisted living is around 40 percent cheaper than the cost of a nursing home in the central Illinois area.
