BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Bloomington Police Department's Interim Police Chief, R.T. Finney, will be leaving September 27 after serving the department for the last six months.

City officials said a search committee for the new chief has reviewed six candidates over the last month, and they have now narrowed it down to one.

Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner added that City Manager David Hales will most likely make the announcement next week.

Finney, who did not apply for the position, said it will be a smooth transition for whoever gets the job.

"I am very confident that whoever is picked, the current command staff will work with that person and they will go forward with the projects that the city wants. They will continue the fine work the department has done," Finney said.

Finney said he is considering another interim police chief position in Monticello once he completes his final two weeks in Bloomington.
