PEORIA, Ill -- The District 150 School Board has new leadership, and already they are taking up the hot topic of the Peoria Stadium.

Monday, the board voted four to two to elect Rick Cloyd as the new District 150 President. Martha Ross was the other nominee.

The board also voted unanimously to elect Debbie Wolfmeyer as Vice President.

Already, board members say they need to have a thoughtful discussion about the potential sale of the Peoria Stadium.

Board members say the community needs to recognize their financial situation and remember Wal-Mart approached them about the land, they were not actively looking to sell.

Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan said, "That's what we've been doing, is gathering information. Just because someone send a letter and says 'we propose that you do this and here's how much we might give you for that', doesn't mean that a decision has been made."

Newly elected board president Cloyd said, "It has very significant economic value and it has very significant recreation, cultural, community and neighborhood value too. There is an important trade-off that we have to look at. Trying to find a balance among those things, in the context of a very difficult financial situation, is what this board has been confronted with."

Board members expect to discuss the matter at the next school board meeting July 15th.
