PEORIA, Ill.-- Thirty-five new Harrison Homes are ready for tenants.
The new homes cost $6 million to build and the redevelopment site will eventually have 200 homes.
All of the homes are part of the new Housing Incentive Program.
That means residents will have utilities under their own name and must meet strict requirements like having a job, being a full-time student or having a disability.
Chief Executive Officer Brenda Coates of the Peoria Housing Authority says the incentive program is designed to get residents moving in the right direction.
Coates said, "We're taking baby steps in getting our residents from where they are. Hopefully you move into a new home, a new apartment and from there you move into the community or maybe you purchase a home of your own. So it's a step on the road to self sufficiency."
Current Harrison Home residents get first priority in moving into the new homes.
