WASHINGTON, D.C. -- If you're considering buying an infant swing, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has just approved a new federal mandatory safety standard for them.
The standard is to improve infant swings' safety and prevent injuries and deaths.
The new federal standard specifies required testing, more explicit warning labels, and manufacturing specifics and will take effect in May 2013.
Between May 2011 and May 2012, the CPSC received reports of 351 infant swing-related incidents, including two that resulted in death.
