PEORIA, Ill. -- Marriott International Incorporated has formally approved the model rooms for the Marriott Pere Marquette in Downtown Peoria.

After being rejected once for small features like wall and carpet coloring, developers have received approval for the new hotel.

The estimated completion date is set for April 30, missing the city's deadline of March.

Developers say they are optimistic with their schedule and are looking for everything to speed up following Marriott's approval.

"It's a milestone and to build a project like this you have to look for the milestones. It's like taking one step after another. And steps are starting to be faster and bigger," said Developer Gary Matthews.

Prices for a room in the new hotel are expected to be as low as $159.

A registration date for a room is still unknown.
