CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- New speed limit signs being installed in central Illinois.

Illinois Department of Transportation crews were busy Friday putting up new 70 mile per hour speed limit signs in the Peoria area.

We found this crew replacing signs on Interstate 74 eastbound just outside of Morton.

While the speed limit law went into effect on January first, state police say motorists must obey the posted signs.

That means until the signs are changed, you can be ticketed for driving faster than 65 miles per hour.
