PEORIA, Ill. -- Drivers beware! The next round of construction begins Monday at the Main and University intersection.

Starting Monday the intersection will be closed to all traffic for the next six weeks.

Also, Main Street from Farmington Road to Underhill and University from Columbia Terrace to St. James will be closed to through traffic.

That means only people that live in the area or are trying to get to businesses will be allowed.

A city engineer says when it's done it will be one lane in each direction and more pedestrian friendly.

"It will be a raised intersection, all-way stop. They'll be nice planters on each corner. We're going to have the Bradley shield embedded in the sidewalk on all four corners," Peoria City Engineer Scott Reeise said.

Detour signs will be posted or you can get a map of the routes at www.peoria-got.org.
