PEORIA, Ill -- A fire in Peoria is under investigation after fire fighters spent a half-hour controlling the flames.
Crews responded to apartments at 1833 West Howett Street around 2:45 Sunday morning.
Upon arrival, the first team reported the second floor was fully engulfed.
Electrical and gas services were cut before crews found fire on the first floor under the stairs.
They also reported a hole had burned through to the second floor.
Once crews began to extinguish the fire, they found it had melted the siding on the house next door.
Around 3:15 a.m., crews had extinguished flames at both homes.
Damage is estimated at $40,000.
No one was injured, and the cause is under investigation.
In mid-September, 28-year-old Greg Nickerson was arrested after shooting 28-year-old Tony Nichols at the same address.
Nichols was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
