Normal teen faces Aggravated DUI charges for fatal crash

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Bond has been set at $1 million for a Normal teen charged with aggravated driving under the influence.

Garrett Peterson, 19, appeared in McLean County court on Tuesday where he was officially charged with two counts of Aggravated DUI and one count of unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Police said Paterson’s car left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole early Sunday morning near the intersection of Parkside and Raab Road in Normal.

Passenger Peyton Scheurmann, 18, died of injuries suffered in the crash. A second passenger was taken to Advocate Bromenn Hospital in serious condition.

Paterson is scheduled for arraignment on November 22.
