EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Texas Roadhouse teamed up with local Law enforcement officers Friday to serve free meals and raise money for Special Olympics, Illinois.
The officers served up lunch for customers Friday afternoon.
Instead of paying for their food, diners were asked to leave a donation...with 100% of the money going to Special Olympics, Illinois.
Volunteers raised 6$,700 this year, that's $2,000 more than last year.
Some who could not make it to the event donated money early, giving officers a head start.
"We started the day with already a couple hundred dollars. And what a great feeling to know that the community came to do that and the out pouring and the support we are seeing from the officers coming today, the athletes coming, the roadhouse coming here. You know it's just a great thing here today," said Texas Roadhouse Managing Partner Aaron Palmer.
Volunteers for the event included officers from East Peoria and Pekin police departments, the Tazewell County's Sheriff's office and the Illinois State Police.
