PEORIA, Ill. - There will be a few more instruments at Sterling Middle School in Peoria this year.

Band and orchestra Director Tammy Weaver was surprised in February when HOI 19 and CEFCU gave her $1,000.

She is using that money to add to her instrument collection but she's doing it by finding the instruments at garage sales and auctions.

By refurbishing older instruments, she said she gets a lot more for her money.

"My goal is to get an instrument in the hands of every kid who wants to play an instrument,” said Weaver. “It may be the only one they have, the only thing they have to do. Some of our greatest musicians have come from someone who donated an instrument and said, ‘here, give this a try’."

Since Weaver's story aired back in February, people have donated a flute, clarinet, trombone and a couple of violins to the Sterling Middle School band.
