GOODFIELD, Ill. -- One person is dead following a two vehicle crash on eastbound I-74 on Monday morning.

The driver of one of the vehicles, Jack Marvel, 78, of Marquette Heights, was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.

Authorities say that Marvel was traveling eastbound at mile marker 115, near Goodfield, when he tried to merge into an emergency lane to do a u-turn. He crossed over another lane of traffic and was struck by another vehicle.

The driver of that vehicle, Miranda Hughes of Oregon state, was not injured in the accident. Her passengers all refused treatment.

Marvel's passenger, Judy Marvel, 72, was transported to OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Marvel is listed in fair condition.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
