BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Making the city government more transparent is one issue Mayor Tari Renner wants to tackle in 2014.

Mayor Renner gave Bloomington's first ever State of the City Address Monday night; saying things were looking up for the community.

Renner talked about making progress on the pension plan and solid waste program, but adds there are some challenges for the upcoming year.

"Bringing more different types of people into the political process and I think when we do that we're going to make better decisions. I'd also like to make sure we have a transparency ordinance that basically means that people can speak at every one of our public meetings," said Mayor Tari Renner, Bloomington.

Mayor Renner says more town hall meetings are in the works for this year.
