DUNLAP--
While we are just over a month into 2013, the Chinese New Year still has not begun. Their year ends February 10th, but celebrations are starting a week early.
The Peoria Chinese Association, along with the Caterpillar Resource Group, hosted a variety show to celebrate the end of 2012, the year of the Dragon, and the start of 2013, the year of the Snake.
From adults to youngsters, many dancers participated in the show. The show featured traditional costumes and music, as well as more modern tunes, such as 'I Believe I Can Fly.'
Shaobin Liu, a member of the Peoria Chinese Association, says groups practice year round for this event. It is largest of the year for the association.
Liu also adds how the two organizations, PCA and the Caterpillar Resource Group, work closely throughout the year. He says membership between the groups overlaps 80-90%.
