PEORIA, Ill. -- One local group wants to know if local black churches have lost its influence in helping stabilize communities.

Historically black churches around the country have been the institution where decisions were made that brought about positive political and social change.

With violence, drugs and domestic issues plaguing African American families some are now asking where is the black church.

That's the topic of a panel discussion scheduled for Saturday in Peoria.

"What we hope is that the churches would do some examination in terms of what are we gonna do in the 21st Century? l What are we gonna do to help attract and recruit our African American males, is there a spiritual void going on in the community? If so what can the church do?" asked New Millennium Institute Founder Agbara Bryson.

The new Millennium Institute Panel discussion is scheduled for Saturday at the Peoria Public Library from 10:00 am until noon.
