PEORIA, Ill. -- The 28th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure is Saturday, May 10th. Activities kick off at seven in the morning, but you may want to arrive early as some roads will be closed to motorists.

"University Street at Lake Street will closed at approximately 6:30 a.m. to allow people to walk on the roadway to get to the Metro Centre. Most of the other roads surrounding the route will be secured by 6:45 a.m.," said Lt. Steve Roegee of the Peoria Police.

Parking in the Metro Centre is not permitted, except for vehicles displaying a handicap placard.

Others can find parking in surrounding lots and on residential roadways.

Car pooling is suggested, a free bus service is also available.

The shuttles run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. from Northwoods Malls and the Kroger store at Evergreen Square.

Return service will be available once University and Glen streets are re-opened to traffic.

If you have not registered there is still time to do so.

On site registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning, or you can go online at komenmemorial.org.
