NORMAL, Ill. -- New playground equipment was dedicated Wednesday at a Twin Cities grade school.
The ribbon cutting took place at Parkside Elementary in Normal.
Kids can now enjoy safer and more comfortable swings, five large slides and several other play stations.
The money for the new playground came from an Illinois Jobs Now grant and funds raised by the Parkside PTO.
"Representative Dan Brady (R-88th district) got some grant money and we got a portion of that," said Parkside principal Shelly Erickson. "My PTO worked very hard at getting the biggest bang for our buck. We picked out the colors and the Town of Normal installed it which also helped us."
Unit 5 received a total of $300,000 in grants to upgrade playgrounds at five schools.
