PEORIA, Ill. -- The quick thinking of one person Sunday morning saved a family of six from a house fire.

Peoria firefighters arrived shortly before 7 a.m. to find flames and heavy smoke coming from a home at 2201 North Delaware Street.

The fire department used several crews to keep the fire from spreading because of the weather conditions.

The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and four children who safely escaped from the home, thanks to a passerby who banged on doors and windows.

The estimated damages are $130,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
