PEKIN, Ill. -- A Pekin Church is making the holidays a little brighter for some area seniors.
On Saturday, members of the Bethesda Pentecostal Church of God stopped by senior centers and nursing homes to pass out candy canes to residents.
Members went to seven area facilities to remind residents that someone is thinking about them during the holidays. Each candy cane had a special holiday message attached and was delivered by the big guy himself.
"Here's a big jolly guy handing them a candy cane and saying merry Christmas. It just brings a smile. Let's them know somebody's thinking of them. So that's what it's all about. We want to go out and do what we can do give to somebody. Let people know that we're thinking. We're thinking about them," said David Wilder, Santa's helper.
Last year the church reached out to about 800 people. This year they are hoping to almost double that.
