PEKIN, Ill.-- The City of Pekin may be outsourcing mowing services and city workers are speaking out.

The 'yard crew' is a group of seasonal workers that mow lawns and do odd jobs around the city.

The 14 workers are bus drivers during the school year and they depend on yard crew to get them through the summer months.

Workers started mowing last week which is later than usual.

Worker Jeanie Barnes says only 5 crew members are allowed to work right now based on seniority…but none of them know if their jobs are secure.

Barnes says the city should not have to look unkempt until a decision is made.”Why are we delaying... We have a city to clean! I mean we're not going up or going out until a meeting with the new council members?"

Assistant City manager Darin Girdler says the decision to out source mowing services will be made by the new city council on May 28th.
