PEKIN, Ill. – Jurors deliberated for just over an hour on Thursday before finding a Pekin man guilty of abusing an 18-month-old child.

Austin Lovel, 20, was found guilty of Aggravated Battery of a Child causing permanent disability, a Class X Felony. He faces six to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on January 29.

Lovel was arrested in August 2012 after the child's mother brought her to Pekin Hospital. The child suffered a skull fracture, bruising all over her body and abdominal trauma.

Prosecutors said the abuse happened while the child's mother was at work and she was in Lovel's care.

Lovel did not testify but previously told police two different accounts of how the child was injured. Neither account matched the child’s injuries.
