PEKIN, Ill. -- With just nine days left until the biggest shopping day of the year, on Wednesday night, residents got a hands on look at some of the year's biggest tech gadgets.

The Pekin Public Library hosted its first ever "technology petting zoo".

The free event provided participants with different tablets and e-readers to test out for themselves.

Attendees were also educated on differences in cost, size, and capabilities of the products.

"We're hoping to provide a neutral environment where people can see a variety of products and learn a little bit about them," said Assistant Director of Pekin Public Library Alissa Williams. "You know we're not trying to sell them anything, we just want them to know what technology is out there."

This year's tablets were provided by the Pekin Public Library and Verizon.
