PEORIA, Ill. -- Tuesday evening, the Peoria City Council will look to expand hours that a business can close roads in the riverfront entertainment district.

Mayor Jim Ardis says the extension of hours would only be on Fridays and Saturdays. The proposal would allow the closure of public right-of-ways starting at 11 a.m. instead of 4 p.m. from State Street to the Gateway building. The end time would remain at 1 a.m.

"With a lot of the emphasis that we are trying to place on downtown as a place to come for entertainment, I don't see this as being a big issue," said Mayor Ardis.

Council members will also discuss how to pay for some roadwork in the 5th district, specifically for Allen and Alta roads.

Tuesday night's council meeting starts at 6:15.
