PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria County Sheriff's Office wants residents to be on alert for a potential scam.
Here's how it works:
A scammer calls a resident claiming to be from the Peoria County Circuit Clerk's Office.
They say there are unpaid tickets that must be settled over the phone. The scammer then asks for the victim's credit card number.
The Circuit Clerk's Office said they never solicit calls for fine payments. They will only return calls.
