PEORIA, Ill. -- A roomful of farmers learned about new trucking laws and how they affect them.

One of the newest regulations bans the use of hand-held mobile phones while driving commercial trucks.

But the law does allow hands-free phone use, as well as CB radios and walkie talkies.

Kevin Rund with the Illinois Farm Bureau said another law takes effect Monday.

"All commercial driver's license holders must make a visit to the Secretary of State's office and certify the status of their medical card. That is their requirement to have a USDOT physical once every two years. so we'll discuss that and what farmers have to do to over the next two years to comply with that."

Peoria County and the Illinois Farm Bureaus hosted today's free event.
