PEORIA, Ill. -- Monday at 5 pm is the deadline for Peoria County residents to file for an appeal of their property assessment.

The supervisor of assessments for Peoria County says roughly 50-percent of those who file a complaint receive some form of relief.

Dave Ryan says the process is a simple one. People can go online at peoriacounty.org, navigate to the supervisor of assessments page, and then click on 'Front Desk Application' on the left side of the page.

That will provide a complaint form to fill out and also allow you to pull up a list of comparable properties in your neighborhood.

You can also pick up the forms in person in room 301 of the Peoria County Courthouse.

Ryan says most people wait until the last minute to file.

"Typically we always get most of the people wait until the last day to file, that's when most of our complaints come in," Ryan said. "This year seems fairly slow compared to other years but we won't know for sure until 5 o'clock on Monday."

Ryan reminds people who win their appeal that it won't influence their property tax bill until next year.
