PEORIA, Ill. -- There is positive, preliminary news on the violent crime numbers for Peoria in 2011. 

Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard reports that homicides, shootings, aggravated assaults and most acts of violent crime were all reported be be lower than in 2010.    
There were 17 homicides last year compared with 23 in 2010, which is a 30 percent drop.

Criminal sexual assault, however, increased 33 percent in 2011.

Burglaries were up 19 percent in 2011 when compared to 2010.
