PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill -- Small business owners across the nation are preparing their stores for what they hope is one of the biggest days of the year. Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is national Small business Saturday, a day when consumers are encourage to shop local.

Such is the case, for many in the Peoria Heights downtown area. The Heights is known for their small, locally-owned shops.

Cindy Neal, the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce President-elect said shopping small is unequal to shopping big box stores in so many ways.

"The merchants here in the Heights specialize in finding fun, unique things. Certainly you get a great level of customer service and appreciation for supporting the local merchants. I've been in a couple of the shops recently to do a little pre-shopping myself, and they've got some fabulous finds," said Neal.

Also, starting Saturday through December 29th, if you shop any Peoria Heights store that is a member of the Chamber of commerce you can register to win Chamber Bucks.

They will be giving away prizes ranging from $25-$300 good toward any of those Chamber stores.
