PEORIA, Ill -- Due to a recent uptick in crime the Peoria Police Department is forming a special task force for the third summer in a row.
Chief Steve Settingsgaard said in the past, the task force has been largely successful.
This summer's task force will be modeled after the previous ones, with patrols saturating areas of high crime.
He said warmer weather creates more opportunities for interaction, which in turn creates higher crime numbers on the streets of Peoria.
"We're targeting a couple places. We're now drawing up some hot spot maps to narrow down where we need to be the most," said Settingsgaard.
Settingsgaard said more plans for the task force will be revealed within the next two weeks.
