PEORIA, Ill -- A Peoria police officer is on paid administrative leave following a traffic accident.
Chief Steve Settingsgaard says an officer, who's name is not being released, was involved in a hit and run on N. Hale in an unmarked police car Sunday morning.
The officer initially reported the car stolen.
Settingsgaard says it was later revealed the officer may have been involved in criminal conduct. He then asked the Illinois State Police to investigate that matter.
The officer has been placed on indefinite paid administrative leave.
