PEORIA, Ill -- Peoria police are investigating the city's 6th homicide of the year.

The victim has been identified as Eric Brown Jr., 21, of Peoria. Authorities say they have no suspects at this time.

Peoria Police responded to the 1800 block of West Kettelle on reports of shots fired around 4:20 Monday afternoon.

"Officers responded, found a possible crime scene and the victim had been transported by private car to the hospital. [Brown] was taken into surgery where he was later pronounced deceased.," said Captain Michael Eddlemon.

Autopsy results show Brown died of a gunshot wound. The Peoria County Coroner says a bullet passed through Brown's arm and entered his chest.

The shooting occurred just off Western Avenue, an area Peoria Police Captain Eddlemon says is historically active.

Early Monday evening officers were still combing the area for evidence.

Police say they were also questioning several people Monday evening.
