PEORIA, Ill. -- The Peoria Riverfront Museum Board of Directors announced a new President and CEO for the museum on Friday.

The Board selected Sam Gappmayer as the organization’s new President and CEO. He will officially start with the museum on December 2.

Gappmayer most recently served as the President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs.

“I am humbled and honored to be able to serve in a leadership role with the Peoria Riverfront Museum," Gappmayer said. "My wife Ann and I look forward very much to becoming part of the Peoria community."

"I think he is a leader and a museum person, but he knows how to run a business," said Peoria Riverfront Museum Chairman Dave Ransburg. "As somebody once said, 'no margin, no mission.' The mission here is important, I mean we are an educational/cultural entity but we also have to make this place sustainable."

An official press conference will be scheduled when Gappmayer assumes his role at the helm of the museum.
