Peoria activist passes away

PEORIA, Ill -- Funeral services are pending for a former Peoria community activist who died this week after a brief illness.


45 year old Willette Clayton passed away Wednesday at Memorial Hospital just outside of St. Louis, Missouri,.

Clayton died from complications with pneumonia.

Prior to moving to the St. Louis area, Clayton was active with programs at the South Side Mission.

She also was involved with Youth outreach at the Riverplex and held annual shoe and coat give-aways for several hundred local families.

Due to a pre-existing health condition, she was not able to obtain life insurance and the family is asking for donations to help with funeral expenses.

Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Thursday, January 3rd at City of Refuge Worship Center.
