Peoria comedian Royce Elliott dies at 77

PEORIA, Ill. -- A stand-up comedian well-known in the Peoria area has died.

Royce Elliott passed away Sunday at OSF St. Francis Medical Center after a struggle with health issues.

Dubbed "America's Funniest Clean Comedian" for not using profanity, Elliott performed for years in Chicago and Las Vegas, as well as a number of other national cities. He even opened for celebrities like Barbara Mandrell and Lou Ralls.

Most recently, he and Roger Monroe had been performing as "Morning's with Royce and Roger" on WOAM Radio in Peoria.

Elliott is survived by his wife, Helen, three sons and one daughter. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Royce Elliott was 77 years old.
