PEORIA, Ill. -- A Peoria couple was robbed at gunpoint and shot at by two suspects early Thursday morning.

Police responded to the area of 1800 W. Howett St. on a call of shots fired. Officers on the scene were contacted by a 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman.

The couple told authorities they were walking westbound on Howett at approximately 1:40 a.m. when they were approached by two men.

One of the men pulled a black handgun on the couple and demanded money. The male victim threw a dollar on the ground and told the suspects he had no other money. As the couple was walking away, they heard four gunshots. While fleeing the scene, they saw the officer's squad car.

Police say they found three shell casings on the scene. The suspects have been described as adult males, one white, one black. No other additional suspect information has been made available.
