Peoria man attacked with metal fireplace poker

PEORIA, Ill -- Police are investigating the circumstances of an attack that took place last Saturday in the 1200 block of N. Ellis Street.

The 31-year-old victim told officers that he met with an unknown black male at the intersection of Ellis and Russel and followed him back to the above address. The victim admitted to officers that he was looking to buy marijuana off of the suspect.

When the two entered the address, the suspect went upstairs. When he returned, the suspect was holding a metal fireplace poker. The suspect allegedly told the victim, "Get ready to die" and then struck him in the left forearm with the weapon.

The victim said that he fled the address. He was not able to give officers a good description of the house where this incident took place.

Police have no suspects in this incident.
