METAMORA, Ill. -- A house fire in Metamora leaves a Peoria man dead from smoke inhalation.

The Metamora Fire Chief said Ronald Grebner, 67, was visiting a home he inherited, at 1212 west Mount Vernon, on Sunday afternoon when the fire broke out.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen and Grebner moved to the back of the house to call 911.

When emergency crews arrived, he was unresponsive. Grebner was transported the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
