Peoria man pistol whipped during robbery attempt

PEORIA, Ill -- A Peoria man was struck with a handgun during a robbery attempt that took place on the 1200 block of NE Adams St. on Sunday at 12:05 am.

Police spoke to the 28-year-old-victim who said that he was outside trying to get reception on his cell phone when he was approached by two males. 

One of the men asked the victim for a cigarette and the he told him that he didn't smoke.  The other male grabbed him by the wrist, telling him to come with them.  The other male was openly brandishing a revolver.

When the victim tried to pull away from the suspects and escape, he was struck with the revolver and the gun went off as he was hit.  The victim thought he was shot in the head. 

Police investigated his injuries and the scene and were able to confirm that his injuries did not come from being struck by a bullet.  The victims did not take anything from the victim that he is aware of.
