TAZEWELL COUNTY, Ill. -- Phouvone Sophanavong pleaded guilty to murdering his estranged wife last November.

A day after being kidnapped outside her job in Pekin, Laongdao Phangthong's body was found in the trunk of a car, at a parking deck at OSF St Francis Medical Center.

She had been shot in the chest.

Sophanavong then had a nine hour stand-off with police at his Peoria home.

It ended with Sophanavong shooting himself in the chest.

For pleading guilty to murder, he received 55 years in prison and the kidnapping charge was dropped.

Tazewell County State's Attorney Stu Ulmholtz calls the sentence fair.
