PEORIA, Ill. – Cartez Williams, 26, was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a 2013 shooting that killed a Peoria man.

In October, Williams was involved in a shootout that took the life of Carnell Ashford, 31.

Kent Irby Jr. was the shooter who killed Ashford.

He claimed self defense and was charged only with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Irby was sentenced to six months in jail.

Williams was originally charged with two counts of Second Degree Murder but those charges were dropped.

Peoria County State’s Attorney Jerry Brady said Williams and Ashford both fired shots, but it is unclear who shot first.

Williams plead guilty in March to one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
