PEORIA, Ill -- Peoria are investigating an attempted arson that occurred at 1413 NE Adams Street early Sunday morning.

Police spoke to the victim, who said that a nearby vacant house has had people living in it for some time. Police inspected the residence at 1407 NE Adams and discovered multiple signs that people had at least been sleeping in the vacant home.

The victim said that at 3:45 am, he heard a loud crash and went outside to find his backyard, vehicles and other property covered in gasoline. The victim said he had a camera system set up, but they had been unplugged.

The victim also told officers that he had tried to contact the owner of the vacated residence, but the owner did not seem too concerned about the trespassers.

Police are still investigating this incident.
