PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria mothers and fathers gathered this Mother's Day weekend to call for an end to gun violence in the city.

The rally, organized by the Peoria Association Of Pastors For Community & Spiritual Renewal, is the first in a series of planned rallies to encourage Peoria's youth to put down their guns and make a change.

Organizer, Pastor Harvey Burnett says the change needs to start at home.

"We want to fix the problem and the best way to do that is for mothers and fathers to talk to their sons and daughters, for their sons and daughters to talk to their friends and bring those guys in. Bring them in and say 'look we can change man, we don't have to do like this. We can do better'," said Burnett.

The group has another rally planned around Father's Day.
