PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria police are investigating a homicide.

Police say a woman and a child found a body in the backyard of 1404 NE Perry Ave. over the lunch hour Friday.

The victim has been identified as Carnell A. Ashford, who has been living in Peoria for as long as a year but has a listed Chicago address of 4833 W Quincy. He was staying with his girlfriend Brooklyn Irby.

Police say the homicide may be related to a Thursday night shots fired call. During the initial investigation, nothing was found.

The body was found near the scene of a shooting on the 1400 block of NE Monroe Ave from early Friday morning. That shooting left two men injured.

A second round of shots were heard while police were investigating. Lincoln and Woodruff schools were placed on lockdown at 12:05 p.m. They were released from lockdown approximately 35 minutes later.

Ashford's next of kin is his sister Tamara Ashford of Peoria and mother Valerie Ashford of Chicago.

Ashford's autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
